What is Creative Careers?Creative Careers

Creative Careers is a two-day event for year nine students and their teachers. They attend seminar events and see active demonstrations from a wide range of creative professionals, and visit a marketplace where education providers, creative organisations, local business and agencies signpost them towrads possible creative careers.

Creative Careers Aims:- The aims were to:

  • Introduce Slough young people to a diverse range of creative careers through demonstrations, seminars, exhibition and active engagement.

  • Raise the aspirations of young people and the understanding of teachers about employment and opportunities in the arts, cultural and creative industries.

  • Offer young people choosing their GCSE options a chance to see, experience and listen to creative professionals and to think and reflect on their career paths.

The ‘marketplace’ was a lively, busy and inspiring place where students were greeted by a range of creative practitioners and companies, local further/higher education settings and creative and cultural organisations. Here they watched and contributed to the creative work, interacted with the practitioners and got a real feel for what the work involved. Also, gathered information on opportunities available, from school to creative employment. There were a variety of artists, from traditional craft makers to those working with cutting edge technology.

At the ‘seminar space’ students were able to break out into smaller groups and seminars were delivered by creative professionals from different creative industry areas with a wide range of backgrounds.

A number of organisations and businesses participated to display their organisation’s / business’s work, chatted with students and teachers and profiled the varied opportunities available to young people with creative ambitions, within the creative industries.

  Through contributing, Creative Partners:
