Desborough School & Steve Geliot

Desborough School in Maidenhead have been working with artist Steve Geliot on a project which has combined the ‘world of work’ theme with their A level work of ‘transition’. A group of 20 Year 13 A level Art students explored visual ideas using a combination of new and traditional media, with students working individually and collaboratively under the guidance and leadership of the artist. A visit to SEGRO new business sites in Slough provided a starting point for work in photography, film, painting and sculpture.

Steve Geliot is a Brighton based artist who has specialised in what is termed ‘Public Art’ for nearly twenty years. Steve prefers to think of his practice being about engaging with contexts, which are diverse and idiosyncratic because they are real. Steve's approach grew from a core process of carving, informed by observation and experiment, into ever more collaborative and sometimes risky projects. Currently Steve is involved with a Children's Hospital in Brighton, regeneration projects in St Leonard’s on Sea and Worthing, a biomass power station in Slough, a Stone Mine in Bath and a new Health Centre in Truro.
