Duncan McAfee

Duncan McAfee is an artist, musician, writer and teacher, working in a wide range of media and situations.  Recent work has evolved to concentrate primarily on collaborative/participatory audio work exploring local histories, identity and time, through stories, poems, sounds and music. He is also one half of the ongoing collaborative practice, The Miller and McAfee Press.  Importance is placed on publications, with work manifesting itself in audio and/or text based editions, often to accompany installations or performances.

Duncan's workshop is designed to encourage participants to re-experience the environment through sound and poetry.  The workshops will be based on a model the artist recently used to develop an audio-guide and poetic sound work for the Burnham Beeches, working with over 50 primary school children, making recordings of and writing poetry in response to the site.

Participants on the IOE day will learn about sonic art and its application in schools, basic sound recording techniques and processes, and some ideas for approaches to writing and poetry. All participants on the day will contribute to a sonic artwork that will be presented following the course. www.themmpress.com
