The ‘World of Work‘ brief was integrated into the students'art lessons and then expanded in their sessions with Bálint Bolygó. Students were encouraged to explore, create, dismantle and experiment with mechanical and technical items and to investigate making drawing machines. Some students considered different types of employment in the world and others used archetypal ideas of ‘work' with offices, laptops and businessmen as the focus of their artwork.
Bálint Bolygó graduated in 2001 from Edinburgh University with an MA (Hons) in Fine Art. In the same year, he participated in a collaborative Group Show with David Mach RA and in 2002 he was selected for the Bloomberg New Contemporaries exhibition at the Barbican and the Liverpool biennial. His first solo shows included ‘Soft Machines' at the Hiscox Art Projects and ‘Mappings' at the Long and Ryle gallery. His recent projects include a commission for Dublin's Science Gallery's International Light festival - Lightwaves 2009, and an ongoing commission project at the Porthcurno Telegraph Museum, Cornwall. Bálint lives and works in London.
