SEGRO Young Artists 2012-2013

SEGRO Young Artists 2012-2013

In 2012/2013, SEGRO, the multinational property investment and development company, and Creative Junction completed the fifth year of a programme of partnerships between SEGRO, schools and artists to inspire young people, develop talent and celebrate art.

The programme enables 6 schools to work with a professional artist over the course of a term, gaining the skills and understanding to produce artwork for business settings through exploring the theme ‘The World of Work’. This year the programme indirectly involved 6356 people.

117 students and 11 teachers from Ruislip High School, Reading Girls’ School, Slough Grammar, Winchmore School, Claremont Academy and Slough and Eton School were directly involved and took part in a five month programme of exploring the World of Work through art with a professional artist working with them to produce commercially viable art.

The SEGRO Young Artists 2012/2013 programme, concluded with a fantastic exhibition, visited by 207 people, at the Royal Society of Arts in London in April 2013.

Students, teachers and artists involved in the programme were there to exhibit just some of the 100 works that were produced during the programme.

The students, teachers and parents from all of the schools and invited guests attended the public exhibition to view the final pieces of work.

We welcomed back the internationally-celebrated artist Jane McAdam Freud as the SEGRO Young Artists programme’s patron.  Jane is a multi disciplinary artist with her work encompassing drawing, sculpture and film. She is the daughter of artist Lucien Freud and the great granddaughter of Sigmund Freud.

SEGRO employees were invited to an evening reception to understand the work SEGRO carry out in their communities to inspire creativity, develop aspirations and celebrate talent. 11 pieces of work were purchased by corporate clients, including an oil painting of The Houses of Parliament created by one student who delivered a thank you speech on behalf of the students and shared his ambition to be the future Prime Minister! SEGRO agreed to match fund the purchases, resulting in thousands of pounds for the young artists to enable them to further their creative studies.

SEGRO is Europe’s leading owner-manager and developer of industrial property and they aim to make a positive contribution to communities where they have a presence. Creative Junction is proud to deliver the project on behalf of SEGRO.
