“You have made this so special for so many people. Memories for a lifetime! We couldn’t have achieved any of this without you and your Creative Junction team. Thanks and very best wishes.” Derek Peaple, Head Teacher, Park House School and Chair of the Berkshire School Games Organising Committee

Inspired by London 2012, the Sainsburys School Games in Berkshire is an Olympic-style county sporting competition that gives thousands of children and young people from across Berkshire opportunities to perform and compete. The School Games is a national programme delivered locally and Creative Junction ensure that in Berkshire a strong cultural element is included. We are delivering this through a series of Opening Ceremonies and other cultural and artistic elements, to recognise and celebrate the strengths and skills of all children and young people in Berkshire.

After the successes of 2012 and 2013, we were re-commissioned by the School Games Local Organising Committee to coordinate and produce two ceremonies and other cultural and artistic elements in 2014.

The Opening Ceremonies are now a renowned, important and much anticipated part of the global Olympics and Paralympics, and our local Opening Ceremonies aim to have a similar status, profile and impact in the context of The School Games.

Artists supported activity in the Cultural Village, including drumming workshops, singing and craft. 2014 saw the addition of especially nominated inspiration young flag bearers, with areas flags designed by young people, selected from over 500 entries.

Cultural and artistic elements are supported by Artswork, the South East Bridge, enabling schools to work with professional artists and young leaders to work towards Arts Award.

“I would just like to say a HUGE thank you on behalf of the School Games team for all your efforts and contributions to what was a fantastic week. The School Games started out as a fairly ambitious vision and one that would need the cooperation and expertise of many different people to pull it off. Early reflections suggest that the events were a great success and that is due in no small part to your efforts so thank you very much. Collectively we hope we have provided many young people with a memorably positive experience.” Tom Blindell, School Games Event Lead Organiser
