Ranelagh School & Gordon Dickinson

Ranelagh School in Bracknell have been working with Swindon based artist Gordon Dickinson on a project that has stretched the creative intelligence of six Year 11 GCSE Art students and their teacher. It has been a journey of discovery and experimentation leading to a greater understanding of materials and techniques, involving new ideas and experiences. Through example, discussion, and involvement students have develop increased understanding of the importance of risk taking, learning to fail with confidence and lateral thinking. The group have produced six unique works of art, which are both visually stimulating and thought provoking for its intended audience.

Gordon Dickinson is a self taught artist and has been practicing for thirty or so years, turning professional in 1995. He served an apprenticeship in coach building from 1976, a good trade involving a wide variety of skills and materials, a “jack of all trades”. His work reflects this training, as he bounces from one art form to another and back again. From sculpting to painting, filmmaking and photography, and on occasions all simultaneously. He is currently working on an exhibition, to be held at Bath in September.
