Subhadassi is a poet and artist. He was born in Huddersfield, Yorkshire in 1967. After graduating from Nottingham University with a degree in Chemistry, he studied literature and philosophy, then moved to the mountains of Spain, where, in 1992, he was ordained into the Western Buddhist Order.
The name ‘Subhadassi’ means ‘a glimpse of beauty’. He has worked as a freelance artist for over a decade during which time he has received a number of awards, and undertaken residencies and commissions. The title poem of his first full-length poetry collection 'peeled' received a Special Commendation in 2004/5 Forward Prize for Poetry. In 2006 he moved from rural Northumberland to Central London where he divides his time between writing, photography, and freelance work in these areas, including work in education both as an artist and as a creative consultant.
