Oxley Park Academy in Milton Keynes is leading on the Network Schools “Music for Literacy” project – which aims to raise literacy attainment in Year 6 students. Teachers and students from 4 Milton Keynes schools (Oxley Park Academy, Abbeys primary school, Middleton Primary and Langland Community School) will work with professional singer songwriter, Tom Billington. Together they will develop original songs that aim to increase students’ grammatical knowledge as well as their ability to retain and apply this knowledge to their writing. In addition to this project participating teachers will be supported through an Action Learning Set, facilitated by Alison Leverett-Morris, which will provide a space for reflection on the practical application of skills developed and an opportunity to share learning and strengthen the schools’ network.
