Sophie Ruggiero

My passion for performing began at the local Youth Drama group in High Wycombe where I acted in short plays at festivals, as well as taking on small roles with the adult group.  After a gap year in Australia and south-east asia, I went on to study ‘Film and Theatre’ at the University of Reading where I performed in a diverse range of productions, as well as devising short films. After Univerisity my insatiable wonder-lust led me to Japan where I taught English as a Foreign language for 2 years.  I made the best of my acting skills there and encouraged my students to engage in role play and song as part of their broad learning experience. On my return I worked as a fundraising, marketing and communications professional for a number of educational organisations including the University of Oxford, Science Museum, Film Education and Oxford University Press.

I am the proud mum of two entertaining young girls (Grace, 6 and Vita, 2) and while on maternity leave, I took the opportunity to re-think my career and found myself becoming a teacher for Monkey Music who run energetic music and movement classes for pre-school children.

After hours, I like to un-wind and escape from the daily grind by taking to the stage with the Oxford Theatre Guild and Oxford Operatic Society.  Last year I played Elizabeth Proctor in The Crucible at the Playhouse and this year I took the lead role in the Cole Porter musical Anything Goes. In addition to performing and travelling, I have a broad range of interests and am delighted to begin my training as a Creative Agent at Creative Junction in 2010.  I believe this to be the start of something new and exciting. Who knows where it will lead…
