Christina Pepper

Christina is a creative nomad who has finally settled in England after many years of travel.

As a Peace Corps volunteer Christina spent two years living on the Old Silk Road in Uzbekistan where she was a secondary English as a Second Language teacher and trainer. When not at school she spent her time consulting the emerging National Puppet Theatre of Bukhara, volunteering at the local orphanage, organising summer camps and drinking copious amounts of orange Fanta from glass bottles.

She then spent two years in Japan, again teaching ESL in secondary school and using drama, music and visual art in the classroom at any opportunity. While living in the Land of the Rising Sun, she clambered up Mt. Fuji, took calligraphy and taiko drumming lessons and wrote for and edited several English-speaking newsletters.

From there she came to England and completed her MA in Theatre and Development from the University of East Anglia. Her dissertation looked at the barriers to child participation using primary research from a project she designed and delivered to AIDS orphans in Bushbuckridge, South Africa.

Following her postgraduate studies she spent three years as the Community Arts Co-ordinator at the Corn Exchange (Newbury), project managing several large-scale arts projects with schools and the community. She served as the Creative Agent for the Creative Partnerships pilot year in West Berkshire.

Christina spends her free time battling slugs, looking for funky shoes, baking and spending time with her lovely husband. She hopes to one day publish a novel, visit South America to complete her travels to all the inhabited continents and earn her PhD.

Christina joined the Creative Junction team in June 2009.
